No. 2 village in Blairmont, Berbice was the setting of a recent APNU/AFC campaign rally featuring Prime Minister Moes Nagamootoo as the main speaker.

As set-up was happening three hours before the PM’s scheduled speech time, people were milling about including some who appeared to be supporters of the PPPc party. They talked with the Coalition advance party sharing their issues and concerns. APNU/AFC staff took the time to provide information and advice on how to access resources for themselves and their families and encouraged the people to vote for the coalition in March.

The crowd grew as mini-buses arrived with supporters and locals assembled, some standing in or sitting in their yards and there was a palpable excitement in the air when the PM took to the stage.

During his remarks Mr. Nagamootoo talked about his experience garnered over 50 plus years of service in politics in Guyana. He shared with the crowd memories of earlier days when he served under President Jagan and he spoke about his disappointment as the PPP party shifted its stance following the influx of a different leadership who were prepared to destroy the GAWU (Guyana Workers Union) and move away from being for the people.

The PM continued on to talk about the accomplishments of the coalition with pride. He noted the substantial increases to pensions, salary increases for civil servants, improvements in roads and bridges, provision of free internet in many communities, and the focus on the education sector which saw a Guyanese as the top performer in the Caribbean at the  CXC examinations, the largest production of rice, huge improvement and growth in the aviation sector, and a stable and increasing GDP.

The PM ended his remarks by asking the Blairmont community to look beyond the divisiveness of racism and vote for the APNU/AFC coalition and a president who is a decent man so that the work started by the coalition could be expanded to positively affect the whole nation.

There were about two individuals who heckled the PM but they became silent as the PM never faltering spoke passionately and engaged the crowd who listened attentively.

The rally ended with the PM descending from the stage to walk through the street shaking hands and taking pictures. The sense of the crowd was overwhelmingly positive as Prime Minister Nagamootoo left that evening. He displayed once again that he is a man of people, ready to continue to work for the people.
