The Government Erred by not Celebrating Mashramani Like the Last 45 years

I am a supporter of the coalition government of Guyana but I believe that they have erred by not encouraging the normal throngs of Guyanese to visit Guyana for the 2016 Mashramani celebrations.

There is never a time when businesses or governments should turn down an opportunity for the public to spend their money.

We saw that after September 11 2001 the President of the USA made a plea to the citizens for them to go to the stores and spend, and in spite of the extra security measures at the airports the government was encouraging visitors to the USA.

If there were 5000 visitors to Guyana for the 2016 Mash celebrations and they each spent US$100 per day for 5 days the revenue injection into Guyana’s economy would have been US$2.5M and that is not accounting for the airfare that supports the aviation industry in Guyana.

I understand that the government wanted to focus on the 50th anniversary celebrations in May, but they should let the public decide the size of their purse and their preference, I am sure that many would have gone to Guyana for both celebrations and everyone would be better off.

Congratulations to all on the 46th Anniversary of the Republic and Happy Mashramani.
