The CEO of Guyana Fashion Week (GFW), Sonia Noel, is on cloud nine with news that Fly Jamaica is on board with GFW, Guyana’s premier fashion event that is set to take off this weekend at Rahaman Park, Georgetown, Guyana. The first ever week-long celebration of the show this year will include a range of workshops in photography, makeup artistry, and modeling as part of the eco-system of GFW.
Guyana Fashion Week boasts an impressive lineup of 40 Caribbean and North American-based designers–including Guyanese designers Gem Fraser and Myrna Patterson–and over 100 models who will be rocking a 100 foot long runway. This year’s theme of GFW is ‘Water’. The event not only aims at showcasing the talents and creativity of the featured designers but also places a strong focus on empowerment supplemental talent in the fashion industry including photographers, makeup artists, and fashion marketeers.
And in a recent development, word is out that the official face of Guyana Fashion Week, Arti Cameron, has arrived in Guyana via a Fly Jamaica flight for Guyana’s biggest fashion event ever.
“It’s a major honor to be the face of this fashion and marketing event that helps Guyana to become an epicenter of Caribbean fashion,” Cameron said when asked about the privilege offered to her on a silver platter.
The 2012 Miss Guyana World and Sonia Noel, one of Guyana’s top fashion gurus and fashion entrepreneurs, have shared a long connection going back to Cameron’s debut at age 14 on a runway under the watchful eyes of Noel.
“Our camp is buzzing with expectancy and excitement for this historic event; we are fully ready,” Sonia Noel said when asked about the state of preparations for the week-long series of shows. She added that NY based fashion photographer, Donn Thompson, and veteran journalist Tangerine Clarke have already arrived ahead of the 2013 installment of GFW.
This would be the 6th edition of GFW–previously dubbed Guyana Fashion Weekend–and the first time Sonia Noel and her advisors are venturing to transform it into a fashion Week as against a fashion Weekend.
