Unusual menu items

Six unusual things I’ve eaten/drunk on my travels:-
1. Ducks’ tongues (Hong Kong). All you’d expect of a tongue except with an unexpected crunch.
2. Baked limpets (Madeira). There must be enough limpets around British waters to feed the world but, in my view, they’re best left stuck to the rocks.
3. Pigs’ ears (Thailand). Imagine eating plastic handbags.
4. Witchety grubs (Australia). Quite pleasant – like prawn – until you think what it is.
5. Termites (Costa Rica). A taste like mushed up newsprint.
6. Cassiri (Guyana). This is an Amerindian brew of fermented cassava, purple potatoes and human spit. Think whisky with rotten cabbage.
