Guyanese Born Charmayne Maxwell from ’90s R&B Group Brownstone Has Died

Charmayne Maxwell, better known as Maxee, member of the Grammy-nominated 1990s R&B group Brownstone died after a mysterious fall on Saturday February 28. She was 46 years old.

According to reports, Maxwell had attended a soccer match in LA and returned home when the fall occurred. Although no further details about her demise have been released, early reports suggest that authorities are describing her death as an “accident.”

Maxwell is survived by her husband, Danish music producer Carsten Shack, and her young son.

The Guyana born singer and her fellow group members Monica “Mimi” Doby and Nichole “Nicci” Gilbert were signed to Michael Jackson’s MJJ Music label. The group’s biggest hit was 1995’s “If You Love Me,” which earned them a Billboard Music Award and a Grammy nomination.

Following the group’s brief success, Maxwell moved to London and signed with Mercury Records in 2000 to pursue a solo career. Her biggest hit on the European charts was the Darkchild produced “When I Look Into Your Eyes,” which peaked at No. 1.
