British Airways announced today that it will be starting regularly scheduled flights twice weekly from London Gatwick Airport (LGW) to Cheddi Jagan International Airport (GEO), via St.Lucia (UVF) Guyana beginning March 2023.
This marks the return of the flagship airline to Guyana after a hiatus of over 40 years. BOAC served Guyana from the 1950s, then became British Airways after a merger with British European Airways (BEA) in 1974. British Airways continued to serve Guyana, with stops in Trinidad and Barbados until the worldwide recession of 1979 – 1982, caused by the increase in oil prices imposed by the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The new schedule begins with two outbound flights from London Gatwick on Monday 27, March 2023, and again on Thursday 30, March 2023 with stopovers in St. Lucia for 1 hour, on both inbound and outbound flights. A Boeing 777-200ER with approximately 330 seats is slated to fly the route.
