12-year-old Pregnant after alleged rape by Mother’s Partner; Calls for Justice Intensify

Region 10, Guyana  – Authorities are under scrutiny following the harrowing case of two siblings aged 12 and 15, who were allegedly raped by their mother’s 54-year-old live-in boyfriend. The abuse reportedly persisted for over two years, with little to no intervention, despite reports to local authorities.

Medical examinations revealed that the 12-year-old is five months pregnant with a gestational age of 23 weeks as of November 18, 2024, and a due date of April 21, 2025. The child, weighing just 121 lbs (54.7 kg), is small in stature, raising concerns about her health and well-being during the pregnancy. The sibling turned 15 in October and alleges that the accused began raping her when she was 13.

The family resides in a remote rural community of Region 10, Berbice River area. Since the allegations surfaced earlier this month, the accused has gone into hiding, evading public and law enforcement scrutiny.

Community sources allege that reports of the abuse were made to authorities more than two years ago but seemingly ignored. This failure has drawn condemnation and raised serious questions about the systems in place to protect vulnerable children.

Community and family members are now demanding swift action to locate the accused and ensure justice for the siblings. They also urge a review of the authorities’ handling of the initial reports, citing a critical lapse that allowed the abuse to continue unchecked.

This tragic case underscores the vulnerabilities faced by children in rural areas and the urgent need for systemic reforms to address and prevent abuse.

Further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
