Businessman Nicolas Coates was shot during a daring robbery at his home in Epping Avenue Belair, Georgetown on Monday November 23, 2015. Mr. Coates who had just returned home and preparing to have a cup of tea was rushed by three armed criminals, two of whom immediately started firing their handguns after running up the stairs to his home and barging through his front door.

Initially the revolvers of two of the shooters misfired with no discharge from their weapons which only made clicking sounds without any rounds leaving the chambers immediately. This allowed Mr. Coates to throw his hot cup of tea in the directions of the bandits resulting in some scuffling while Coates ran for the safety of his bedroom and handgun.

One of the criminals then managed to get his arm with his Glock weapon through the bedroom door as Coates struggled to close the door against the force of the three robbers. The gunman with the Glock fired one round in the direction of Coates striking him in the right knee and as Coates managed to get his weapon his badly damaged right leg could not support his weight and he collapsed firing seven rounds in the direction of the robbers, striking at least one of them.

CCTV shows the gunmen  then leaving Coates' premises and entering a older model car and making their getaway. During the robber and invasion Coates cellphone was stolen and the conversations between the bandits was recorded on the voicemail of a person whose number was the last one called by Coates.

Investigators are reviewing all evidence and are pursuing leads in the case.
