The travellers of the medical world: Nurses

The tragic death of Jacintha Saldanha in London yesterday (following the Australian radio Hoax) is a reminder how much we value our nurses. Londoners are deeply upset by this news. It’s also a reminder that our nurses come from all over the world, making an invaluable contribution to the NHS.

Of course, this is great for us, but not necessarily great for the countries they left (it’s said that there are more Malawian nurses in Birmingham that there are in Malawi). So hats off too to the nurses who continue to work in their home countries, like the woman in this picture (waiting for the flying doctor, in Port Kaituma, Guyana).

Wherever you are, value your nurses.
